Vacations and Such...

After learning we couldn't do our Frozen Embryo Transfer this cycle, I was completely bummed out. It was such a let down to discover that the hope I'd been banking on after the last failure was going to be added to the 'postponement' list of infertility treatments. There is just so much waiting. Waiting for a chance. Waiting for hope.

We have literally had only one chance at pregnancy in the last two years of trying. A normal couple would have had 24 pregnancy attempts by now. A "normal" couple can complete three cycles in three months. Three cycles on IVF time can take a whopping year or two to finish. Time does not fly with this fun. So much waiting.

Despite our lack of cash flow at the moment (and no I have not paid my father back for the partial IVF loan), I am confident I made the right decision regarding our D.C. Vacation. Planning this trip has been a therapeutic distraction. Spending nights reading about monuments, galleries, and museums has been much more productive than pining over our lost embryos or fantasizing about how good it would feel for my stomach fat to have a purpose.

We're leaving in a few days. We'll be gone a few days. And then a few days after that it should be time to try all this again. IVF #1, the continuation, FET style. And after trying, we'll wait. Always more waiting.

Tonight I met up with my little local Infertility Support Group, which is always a time I look forward to...and I'm excited because in Washington I'll get to meet up with some D.C. ladies as well (for ice cream, and I scream for ice cream). Who will be there?

Conceive This! will be on vacation as well, of course. While I will be in touch with my brand new crack.berry tour, I doubt I'll have time to blog (but you never know). If you're on the edge of your seat wanting to know what I'm doing at every moment, you can follow me on Twitter, which I still don't totally 'get' yet. The excitement, I know, is almost too much to bear.

I'll be back sometime next week.

Better go pack. Or plan. Or something. I promise lots of pictures when I get back! (or maybe while I'm there, you never know).

Buh-bye now, buh bye.

Have fun! I am still bummed that I won't be able to meet you out there. I probably will be sent down to your neck of the woods this winter for a meeting (which would be lovely seeing that MN is so COLD sometimes).

Safe travels.

Murgdan, there is a really cool monument that honors all of the nurses who served in Vietnam. I thought it was very powerful and moving. And it gives props to women!

Have a great time! Take lots of pics.

You and your hubs deserve this vacation. You've been running yourself ragged, woman! Enjoy every moment of D.C.

And then.......onward and upward to your FET!

I'm still bummed that you're not coming out to San Francisco, but I guess I'll get over it...

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip, and I hope it is all the distraction you need.

Your FET and many, many, readers will be awaiting your return. Safe flight.

Bon voyage!

My favorite ice cream place in DC closed several years ago, so I can't give you any ice cream suggestions, but I'm sure the D.C. bloggers will hook you up.

So much waiting! I hate it. People don't get that, and when they know we've been with the same RE since November, I thinkn they imagine we're 'pumping it up' for every cycle. So far, this year, we've had an IUI, laparoscopy & IVF, and we have to wait until the fall to do IVF again.

Seems like a lot, but at the same time... so stinking long!

I'm so glad you have a worthy distraction. Planning our vacation has helped me through some of the heartbreak as well. I'm glad you get to meet up with some DC inferty types as well.

What I wouldn't give sometimes to be in the U.S. (People here are quite secretive about it, and the support groups are nearly nonexistent!)

Uh, this is a bit long for a comment, eh?

I like that ad you have attached to the blog.

Have fun! DC is great. :) And I know how you feel. Since my husband and I started trying to conceive last year, we've had precisely "0" chances of becoming pregnant...our attempts have literally been futile.

Good luck to you!

Have a wonderful trip! And I totally feel you on the waiting thing. All I do these days is wait to move forward. I'm eager to hear what you go thru for the FET, I think there may be one in my future, so I'm looking forward to following along with you.

Safe travels!!

Mmm, good ice cream in DC. I will be gone this weekend, so I can't join. But if you're down on the Mall, go to the Reagan Building's food court. Gelatissimo is delicious! Unfortunately you have to go through security to get in the building, which is a drag. But the gelato is worth it! There's another great gelato place on P St., NW between 14th and 15th (across from Whole Foods). It's called Pitango and they sole-source their organic dairy products from a farm in Lancaster, PA. Their gelato is out of this world (but not as convenient to the Mall).

Have fun in my hometown!

HAVE A GREAT TIME! Just thinking-I remember when I signed up for our 4 cycles of IVF. I put down that my first would be July, second in Aug, and so on... It took until November to complete the first one.

Hey! THANK YOU for the cute card and it's sentiment! It was adorable and definitely made me feel good. Braces Bunch rawwwks!

When we went to San Francisco in April, it was like you said, fun planning it and theraputic to focus on something else and to just escape my/our own reality. It does feel like forever between cycles and those frozen cycles, as I've found out are an awful wait. April 17th I started Lupron and June 6th or something I got that positive and well... back to the drawing board.

Enjoy your trip! Hug Mel and Jendies for me!

nancy said...

First of all, thank you for the card in the mail. It REALLY was something special to receive and I wanted to let you know how much I really appreciated it.

Secondly, I hope you have an awesome time on vacation! Yay!

Thirdly, I can't tell you how much I understand you on the waiting front. I spent month after month getting cancelled or postponed. 4 surgeries, months of cysts, shitty lining, blah blah blah, Yeah. I just wanted a fucking CHANCE. I finally got my chance in my FET, which as you know turned out +, but even then the doc said my lining wasn't good enough and I'd have to wait. I told him no fucking way, thaw out my embryos and let me try. I just had to finish a cycle. I just had to have a chance.

So... Here's to your upcoming chance and to all the hope and luck that will come with it.

I heart DC and that whole region. It is high on our list of places to relocate. Have a great time.

The waiting and analyzing and analyzing while waiting is so tough. Hoping you will come back from your vacation refreshed and ready for IVF #1 - FET style. You all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Hope that's OK.

I hear you. Always with the waiting. Enjoy DC - you deserve a break.

No need to publish this comment, I just wanted to let you know.

For the round up extravaganza. I picked one of your posts. Here is what I wrote.

Conceive This!: She Laughed Until.. Why: Because when I read it, I realized I was not alone and the comments showed the power of the IF sisterhood.

Thanks for your amazing writing.

I hear ya on the waiting - it sucks all kinds of a$$. Really. Absolutely no upside to it. Unless you can use that time to disconnect and go on a well-deserved vacation....

Oh wait. You're already gone!

Good for you - enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.
